Gardening on a beautiful day
It’s a gorgeous weekend here in the California Bay Area, with temps around 85F. A little warm for my personal tastes, but it’s definitely beautiful weather. My husband has been busy all weekend, working on the ever-present “list” of things to do. When we were renting a house, there were things that could’ve been on a “list”, but we weren’t going to bother with. Now that we own, that list keeps growing by leaps and bounds. It keeps hubby pretty happy, really … he likes coming home and puttering around doing little projects, one at a time.
So this weekend, it was gardening. Or more specifically, planting tomatoes. My husband hates grocery-store tomatoes but loves fresh-grown ones, and occasionally tries to grow ‘em. This house has a couple (ugly) concrete planters in the back, and he spent a busy (and sweaty) morning weeding and tilling the dirt in one of them. Of course, since I’m easily amused by the appearance of my spouse toiling away in the hot sun with sharp implements, I took pictures.
But wait - while we were at the store hunting for plain ol’ beefsteak tomato plants - which aren’t always easy to find since there seem to be 50 different varieties of tomatoes/new hybrids now - we also picked up something else.
Yeah, our own little jalapeno plants. We love jalapenos - I use them a lot in cooking - never tried growing them before, but there’s a first time for everything.
And lastly, one of our neighbors appears to have a lot of blackberry bushes growing on the side of their house, and they are starting to poke through/under the fence into our sideyard. Which is cool, because before long we’ll probably have a nice blackberry bush area growing by the garage. Hehe…this place is awesome.
