Ducks have thick feather coats

duck photo

Look at how far the bill of this preening duck is sinking into the feathers. Kinda amusing.

Afternoon bird gets the worm

photo

photo

There are two robins that frequent our new backyard in the mid-late afternoon. They apparently love the side of the lawn that is heavily shaded by trees, and seem to find a lot of worms every day. I think it’s adorable how they tilt their heads to the side to “listen” for worms, than dive in with their beak. I don’t have the telephoto lens to take great bird photos, but when I looked at the RAW file at 100%, I was happy to see I’d caught one of the robins actually catching a worm.

Btw, I feel like the robins up here are smaller than the ones further south - just like the squirrels. Seems odd.

Backyard squirrels, pt2

photo

photo

Top photo: for some reason, squirrels don’t like to stand still to have their picture taken if you’re too close…
Bottom photo: I think this one was checkin’ me out as much as I was checkin’ him out.

Backyard squirrels pt1

photo
photo

In the top photo, there’s actually two squirrels on the tree trunk - one is in shadow and hard to see, tho. With all the trees in our new backyard, I thought there might be more squirrels. I’ve seen three so far - two dark ones and one light grey one. All three are somewhat small, with much less “bushy” tails and such than the ones down south. They’re fairly active and seem to love the tall palm tree in the neighbors backyard. It’s often fairly dark by the fences here, so I often have to push the ISO up fairly high, which means grainy pictures. :( Oh well.

Cow’s Life

photo

I’ve never been into cows, but recently I find them to be interesting subjects. I couldn’t say why - perhaps that odd, brainless-but-at-peace expression that’s always on their faces.
